What It Is
A Scope of Work is the business-facing companion to your Pentest Authorization Letter and Rules of Engagement: instead of legal permission or operational testing rules, it sets client expectations on what they're paying for. That means the deliverables, timeline, and fees for this specific engagement, in writing, before work begins.
Why It Matters
It's what prevents scope creep and payment disputes after delivery — a client who signed off on a specific deliverable list and price can't later claim they expected more, or refuse payment because the report looked different from what they imagined. Pair it with an MSA if this is an ongoing client relationship; a standalone SOW is fine for a one-off engagement.
